Automated fridge temperature monitoring
Never miss a fridge temperature check again.
Automatically monitor your refrigeration 24/7, receive instant alerts if something goes wrong, and keep audit-ready temperature records inside the Chomp Food Safety App.
How Chomp Loggers work
Chomp automatically monitors your refrigeration temperatures 24/7, records the results and alerts your team when something needs attention.
1. The logger monitors temperature
2. The Gateway receives readings
3. Chomp records everything
4. Get alerted when something's wrong
Keeps recording, even if you lose connection
Because the Loggers are battery-operated, they continue recording temperatures even if power or Wi-Fi is interrupted. Once the system reconnects, the stored readings are automatically uploaded.

Trusted in busy kitchens
"With more than 30 fridges across five venues, Chomp Loggers save us over 30 hours a week on manual temperature recording. The data is automatically uploaded to Chomp for approval, giving our teams more time to focus on other important tasks."

Frequently asked questions
Why do Chomp Clever Loggers use soda lime beads?
The temperature probe sits inside a vial of soda lime beads rather than measuring the air temperature directly. Soda lime beads mimic the temperature of food and liquids, providing a more accurate indication of the temperature that matters most. They also help reduce false fluctuations caused by opening and closing fridge doors, resulting in more stable and reliable temperature readings.
What notifications will I get?
You can set your own temperature limits for each fridge or freezer and choose when you want to be alerted. If temperatures go outside those limits or power is lost, you'll receive a notification by email and through the Chomp app (if installed).
You can also adjust your alert settings to suit equipment that regularly fluctuates for short periods, helping reduce unnecessary alerts.
You can also choose who get's notifications. We suggest setting up at least two people, so someone can respond if the other person isn't available.
Are Chomp loggers easy to install & set up?
Yes. Its super easy to set up and install. You can follow our quick installation guide here.
Once installed, your Loggers and Gateway connect to Chomp and start recording your refrigeration temperatures automatically.
If you need help at any stage, our team is here to support you.
How many Gateways will I need and where should they go?
You'll need at least one Gateway, with one Gateway typically required per room where Loggers are installed.
Each Gateway needs to be connected to mains power and Wi-Fi. For the best connection, we recommend keeping Loggers within approximately 15 metres of the Gateway. Walls, solid panels and refrigeration units can weaken the Bluetooth signal, so an additional Gateway may sometimes be required.
The Gateway is compact, measuring approximately 10.5 cm × 9 cm, and can be mounted to a clean, dry wall using double-sided tape or the built-in wall-mounting points.
We'll help you determine the right number of Gateways and the best positioning for your kitchen.
What if my cool rooms walls are too thick?
Cool rooms and freezers are really good at keeping the cold in. Unfortunately, they are also good at keeping our logger’s signal in, so sometimes the regular logger won’t be enough.
If the signal can't reliably pass through the wall, we can use a Logger with an external probe. The probe sits inside the cool room to monitor the temperature, while the Logger remains outside where it can maintain a strong connection with the Gateway.
What happens if power or Wi-fi is lost?
Your Loggers continue recording temperatures if power or Wi-Fi is interrupted. Once the system reconnects, the stored temperature readings are uploaded, so you don't lose your temperature history.
To ensure that your food is still safe, you can check your data during the outage to see if temperatures stayed within a suitable range.
How tough are the Loggers and do they need batteries?
Chomp Loggers are built for busy kitchens and protected in a durable plastic housing, but they still need care:
- Keep them clear of food, boxes, or even bags of peas anything covering them can reduce signal.
- Regular checks and knowing where your loggers are located will help extend their life.
Treat them like your phone — tough, but happier when looked after.
The Loggers are battery operated, and replacement batteries are available when required.
Do I still need to save my temperatures on the Chomp app?
Yes you do.
Your Logger temperatures are automatically recorded in the Chomp app, so you don't need to manually enter each temperature reading.
You still need to review the recorded temperatures in Chomp. If everything is correct, simply save the record. If something isn't right, you can make the appropriate corrective action.
How much does a Chomp Logger system cost?
Every setup is different depending on the number of refrigeration units and rooms you need to monitor. See our pricing above and complete the quote form to get an estimate for your kitchen. We'll then confirm the exact combination of Loggers and Gateways required.
