MPI Food Control Plan Updates: Important Deadlines and Key Information

Food businesses must adopt the full plan by 24 February 2024 with some changes required to be implemented by the end of this month, 30 June 2023.

We suggest reviewing the updates with your team to ensure that you are aware of the changes and can confidently comply with the latest regulations.

The following cards will need to be adopted by 30 June 2023:

• Separating food
• Knowing what’s in your food
• Packaging and labelling
• Recalling your food
• Managing self-supply water
• Using acid to control bugs
• Making sushi
• Hot smoking to control bugs

For those using a paper based system:

If you are using a paper based food control plan, you will need to ensure that you replace specific cards in your plan by the 30 June 2023 and that your whole plan is updated by 20 February 2024.

Here are the steps to update your food control plan:

1. Download the new cards here
2. Every food business must update the following cards (remove the old cards and add the updated cards):
   1. Recalling your food
   2. Separating food
   3. Knowing what’s in your food
   4. Packaging and labelling
3. If your business does the following, then they also need to be updated:
   1. Making sushi
   2. Hot smoking to control bugs
   3. Managing self-supply water
   4. Using acid to control bugs
4. Before 20 February 2024, you must update your full plan. There are three ways you can do this:
   1. Download and save or print the entire plan here
   2. Email your local registration authority (e.g., MPI, council) and ask for a new Plan
   3. Purchase a hard copy (printed) Plan from True North here
